Silvia Simoncelli

Course Leader of the Master in Contemporary Art Markets


Silvia Simoncelli is an art historian and independent curator. She is interested in public art, in the economic relationship between art and its market, and in artistic practices that criticize social institutions.

She has served as course leader of NABA’s course in Contemporary Art Markets since 2012; she also teaches classes within the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies program. She is a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera and a member of Forum Kunst und Markt, an international research group on the art market based in Techinische University in Berlin.

Simoncelli is the Italian editor of the Art Market Dictionary and a contributor to the online art market publication ArtEconomy24. Previously, she worked as a research associate at Zurich University of the Arts.

She regularly holds seminars at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg in Germany, where she is completing her PhD.

As a curator, Simoncelli has developed projects for nonprofit and public spaces in Zurich, Winterthur, São Paulo, and Milan, where she worked with Careof.
