The Academy students provide a futuristic perspective on how to inhabit the Planet. They search for a balance point between urbanisation and the environment. "Counter-urbanization" is the title of the seventeenth edition of Nature Created by Design - the virtual exhibition hosted by the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art (SIVA) this year. On December 5, on the occasion of the event presentation, Riccardo Baccani (Communication and Graphic Design Area Academic Assistant and NABA lecturer) and the BA in Graphic Design and Art Direction student Andrea Grassi took part in the online talk.

Art and design faculties focus on counter-urbanisation

Nature Created by Design changes the hosting academy every year. However, the event core is the same: the pivotal role of current environmental problems and sustainability issues in the art and design didactic paths. This year, the theme is counter-urbanisation — a balancing force of urbanisation processes, the key to living in accordance with the Earth's needs.

Six are the Communication and Graphic Design Area projects supervised by NABA lecturers Riccardo Baccani, Marco De Luca, Arif Bashir and Orazio Marino. They are "Rule of thirds" by Andrea Scaccabarozzi, "The Guest" by Gaia Grassi, "Back Home" by Xu Ya-Li, "Interrupted Breathing" by Andrea Grassi, "Blind-istantanea" by Alessia Cacucciolo, "Save The Queen" by Chiara Bozzaotra.

Born under the guidance of Valentina Dalla Costa (Masters of Arts in Interior Design, in Product and Service Design, and in Social Design Course Leader), five works by Design Area students took part in the 2022 edition of the exhibition too. Namely, "Amazigh" by Alice Visentini, "DoubleRoom" by Carrie Hack, "Uno sull'altro" by Giacomo Quinland, "Mareo" by Domiziana Doronzo and "Correspondances" by Maya Safi.

Not only NABA and SIVA, Nature Created by Design also comes from the collaboration of many international institutions. They are the Seoul Institute of the Arts, the University of Reading, the Maastricht Institute of Arts, the Musashino Art University, the USC Roksi School of Art and Design and the Bandung Institute of Technology.
