On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, observed worldwide on November 25, a new collaboration between NABA and Real Time embraces creativity as a way to signal a concrete and meaningful commitment. The initiative involved the creation of an artwork by students from the Design and Visual Arts Areas of the Academy, inspired by a tragic news story featured in a documentary aired on discovery+.

The artwork created by NABA students against gender-based violence
The series of small sculptures created by NABA students embodies the complexity and power of all forms of resistance to violence against women. An “archive of gestures of courage,” expressed through wax and clay modeling, takes form as a work of art.

Unveiled at NABA Milan campus, the installation was developed with contributions from Design Area students Sade Ekwedike, Ottavia Ferraris, Aldo Mucciarone, and Aurora Possenti, alongside Rebecca Momoli and Saverio Stoll from the Visual Arts Area. The work was supervised by the artist and NABA lecturer Marco Bongiorni (LINK). The artwork was later donated to the anti-violence center in Portici, named after Teresa Buonocore, who was murdered for reporting a world of abuse and who today stands as a symbol and emblematic figure in the fight against violence.
The NABA event to present an artwork and a documentary against gender-based violence
The story of Teresa Buonocore, the mother from Portici who reported the man who had abused one of her daughters, Alessandra Cuevas, and was murdered as a result, is told in the documentary “Alessandra - Il coraggio di una figlia” (Alessandra – A daughter’s courage), produced by Addictive Ideas for Warner Bros. Discovery, and aired on Real Time and streamed on discovery+.
This harrowing account became a source of inspiration for NABA students to create a sculpture that raises awareness around gender-based violence, highlighting the importance of actions and the courage of all those who resist.

To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Warner Bros. Discovery and NABA joined forces in a meaningful collaboration and a shared commitment to combat gender-based violence, with the presentation of the student-created artwork and the documentary that inspired it at the Milan campus. The unveiling event was also attended by Alessandra Cuevas, who, both in the documentary and in real life, stands as a role model for all women who have endured violence and are fighting to claim justice.
