NABA campus in Rome is pleased to host "Resistance of the Memory: Alternative Modes of Appearance" - a series of events with the Tunisian artist Nidhal Chamekh. The scheduling will begin with a masterclass introducing the workshop for second and third-year students of the BA in Painting and Visual Arts, in Room 0.03 on May 2 from 2:30 to 5:00 PM. On the same day, there will take place a public lecture, in Room 0.01 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. To conclude, the workshop will be held on 9, 16 and 23 May, from 2:20 to 5:00 PM.
Nidhal Chamekh's work and all the events at NABA
Nidhal Chamekh is a Tunisian artist, who has taken part in the most important international exhibitions, including the 56th Venice Biennale. Chamekh's photographs, drawings, and installations are based on a historical investigation and the past is a gateway to contemporaneity.
The opening masterclass will introduce the artist and his work to the students. The focus on his creative practice will be deepened through a discussion with Marco Scotini (Visual Arts Department Head at NABA) during the public lecture. The three-day workshop is designed as an opportunity for students to experience the artist's research.
Such a series of events is part of a broader didactic programme, born by the partnership between NABA and the International Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome. Nidhal Chamekh is, in fact, a scholarship holder at the Accademia di Francia a Roma - Villa Medici. A masterclass by filmmaker Aude Fourel - dedicated to Media Design and New Technologies students - will come next at Villa Medici on May 26.
