For the occasion, as part of the BookCity Università programme, the Academy presents two events linked to the Media Design and New Technologies Area: the first, a workshop titled “Unreal Engine 5 e Virtual Production: Tecniche Avanzate per la Creazione di Ambienti Digitali,” will be held on November 12 at 5:30 PM at The Corner within the NABA Milan Campus (via C. Darwin, 20); the second, a talk titled “Vita e lavoro nell’epoca degli algoritmi: estetiche di internet e forme di resistenza,” is scheduled for November 14 at 6:30 PM in Room T0.0 of the NABA Milan Campus.
NABA participates in Bookcity Milano 2024: the workshop “Unreal Engine 5 e Virtual Production: Tecniche Avanzate per la Creazione di Ambienti Digitali”
On the presentation of the book “Cinematic Photoreal Environments in Unreal Engine 5: Create captivating worlds and unleash the power of cinematic tools without coding” by Giovanni Visai (NABA lecturer), the BA in Creative Technologies (link) is organising a workshop dedicated to advanced techniques for creating digital environments, with a particular focus on Virtual Production—one of the most innovative and rapidly expanding technologies in the film and gaming industries. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to use Unreal Engine 5 to create high-quality virtual environments.
The event, featuring Giovanni Visai and introduced by Andrea Maggiolo (BA in Creative Technologies Course Leader), with contributions from Marco Secchi (Subject Leader for the Game specialisation within the BA in Creative Technologies), offers a unique opportunity for professionals and enthusiasts to acquire practical skills directly applicable to their own projects, guided by the book's author, and explore Virtual Production's potential.
Entrance by registration only by 5:00 PM on November 11 by emailing events@naba.it
NABA participates in Bookcity Milano 2024: the talk "Vita e lavoro nell’epoca degli algoritmi: estetiche di internet e forme di resistenza”
The second talk organised by NABA for Bookcity Milano 2024 will host a conversation between the two authors Valentina Tanni (art historian, curator, and NABA lecturer) and Tiziano Bonini (Associate Professor in Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes at the Dipartimento di Scienze Sociali, Politiche e Cognitive, Università di Siena), who will discuss their respective books, “EXIT REALITY” and “Algorithms of Resistance. The Everyday Fight against Platform Power”. Moderated by Eleonora Roaro (NABA lecturer and visual artist), the talk explores how digital aesthetics and algorithms redefine our daily experience, creating new forms of social aggregation and contestation. Valentina Tanni, in her book “EXIT REALITY”, focuses on the digital aesthetics of the last fifteen years as authentic subcultures marked by liminal spaces, dreams, traumas, and nostalgia. Tiziano Bonini, in his book “Algorithms of Resistance. The Everyday Fight against Platform Power”, examines how gig workers, the cultural industry, and politics reveal how workers, influencers, and activists use and reinterpret algorithms to develop resistance tactics.
On this occasion, a multimedia installation related to the themes of the two books, created with generative AI by students of the MA in Creative Media Production under the supervision of lecturers Riccardo Baccani and Matteo Palù, will be displayed.
Free entrance, subject to availability.
