As part of the initiative "Exposure. Arte, Culture e Moda dentro e fuori la vetrina," a public exhibition from 1 March to 8 September 2024 that reflects on the traditional concept of the display window and its centrality in exhibition projects, NABA collaborated with MUDEC – Museo delle culture di Milano in creating a research and design journey titled “La strada dei sogni”. This path, marked by works produced by students from the Bachelor of Arts in Design at the NABA campus in Milan, will be the subject of an exhibition from March 21 to 24, and a dedicated talk on March 21 at 5:30 PM, at the Museo delle culture (Via Tortona 56, Milan). The talk will feature presentations by Germana De Michelis (Bachelor of Arts in Design Course Leader), Silvia Iannelli, Hagit Pincovici, and Azzurra Muzzonigro (NABA lecturers).

“La strada dei sogni": the NABA students’ work – Spazio delle Culture "Khaled al-Asaad

Beginning with sociological and anthropological studies on consumption phenomena, which identified the inception of the display window as a pivotal moment towards the spectacle of goods and social window-dressing, NABA students engaged have undertaken research and design projects, the subject of discussion at the talk, around the value of the display window as an identity marker within the urban space, and as a potential new pathway for connecting MUDEC – Museo delle Culture di Milano with the Tortona district. Indeed, shop windows represent one of the primary elements defining the character and identity of neighbourhoods in social, ethnic, and cultural terms.

The urban route that unfolds between Porta Genova and MUDEC has thus been used as a device to reflect on the perception of places theme - strongly influenced by the uses at ground level - to discuss a culture (or cultures), hybridisation, pauses, actions to create community, sounds, archetypes and clichés, spaces, activities, visibility, and ideas, both simple and complex, capable of fostering social identification.
