The Romaeuropa Festival - one of the most prestigious events promoting the convergence of disciplines, languages, and worldviews - renews its focus on Graphic Design. On September 29, the Design Talks return to La Pelanda at the Mattatoio in Rome (Piazza O. Giustiniani 4) for a full day of talks, workshops, roundtables, independent publishing fairs, and site-specific interventions.

The event features prominent figures and organisations from the Italian design scene and its international offshoots, with a particular focus on Rome territory. Among these, NABA, alongside other educational institutions, will showcase the work of Alumni from the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Art Direction who graduated from the Rome Campus.

NABA participates in the Design Talks at the Romaeuropa Festival 2024: Valerio Gelsomini’s thesis project

In addition to workshops, sound installations, roundtables, independent publishing fairs, and talks, the Design Talks will feature a panel discussion among the capital's leading educational institutions, with which the Romaeuropa Festival Foundation has engaged and collaborated over the years. These institutions will present activities and educational projects related to visual design.

During the session on Sunday, September 29, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, NABA’s Rome Campus will host a conversation between Valerio Gelsomini, author of the thesis “Residui Urbani,” and Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi, BA in Graphic Design and Art Direction Course Leader at the Rome Campus and thesis supervisor. Drawing from the renowned “Manifesto del Terzo Paesaggio” by Gilles Clément, Valerio Gelsomini developed an in-depth research project that explores the relationship between humans and nature within urban spaces, focusing on the phenomenon of urban voids in the outskirts of Rome. The project combines theoretical research, photographic documentation gathered by the author, and a mapping of human exploitation traces in suburban abandonment areas.

The outcome is a multidimensional editorial piece offering the reader valuable theoretical and visual insights. It is a photographic journey through the Roman periphery, which, thanks to Gelsomini’s sensitivity, can be experienced both as a book and as a modular exhibition project.
