NABA gladly presents the open laboratory and public talk held by the artist Beto Shwafaty, “Gifts, Trades and Bargains - Cultural Diplomacy in the case of Brazilian Embassy at Palazzo Pamphilj”.
This particular event is part of the three-year project Hidden Histories curated by Sara Alberani and Valerio Del Baglivo as the first of the site-specific activities, realised in partnership with NABA.
Shwafaty’s art develops itself through a research-based practice on spaces, histories and visualities that connects formally and conceptually political, social and cultural issues that are converging to the field of art.
The three days long laboratory will take place into NABA Rome campus, and will develop itself in a path through Piazza Navona with a visit to Palazzo Pamphilj, the palace designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for Pope Innocenzo X, where the Brazilian embassy has been located since 1920.
The participants will be accompanied by the artist in a reflection about cultural colonialism. A real journey of understanding about the artistic, institutional and social strategies, to re-think such a complex legacy.
Both the laboratory and the public talk are dedicated to students coming from academies and universities and every young creative mind that aims to participate.
Laboratory – 14th September, from 3 pm to 6.30 pm; 15th and 16th September from 10 am to 5 pm
Public Talk– 14th September, from 6.30 pm, NABA campus, Via Ostiense 92, Roma
Registration is free but participation is required on all days. Both the laboratory and the public talk have limited access; to participate you have time to book your place until:

Hidden Histories develops a reflection on socio-politic history of many different places in the city of Rome through performances, laboratories and urban exploration.
