For the fourth year in a row, NABA joins BookCity Milano 2021, the event dedicated to books and the literary world, taking place from the 17th to the 20th of November. On this occasion, the Academy will present within BookCity Università four events, dedicated to Design, Fashion Design and Visual Arts Areas.
On November 18th at 5.30 pm in room G.04 of NABA campus in Milan, and live streaming on its YouTube channel the Academy will host the authors of "Dopo le crisi" (LetteraVentidue Edizioni), a book born and developed in virtual rooms on Zoom in which Federica Doglio, architect and NABA lecturer, interviewed the architect Mirko Zardini, Director of the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal from 2005 to 2019, talking about city, architecture, environment and institutions. A path that from today's crisis dates back to the seventies, outlining what appears to be a long climate-environmental, energy, health crisis, which also affects institutions, professions and the modern project itself. The environment, the public space, the dissent, data control, the university, the role of the architect, are some of the issues addressed in this book interview, which embraces the theme of "After", the main theme of this edition of BookCity. The presentation will be introduced by Luca Poncellini, NABA Design and Visual Arts Department Head, moderated by Valentina Dalla Costa, journalist and NABA Course Advisor Leader of the BAs in Design.
On the same day at 6 pm, within the same room G0.4, NABA will present “Asja Lācis. L’agitatrice rossa” (Asja Lācis. The red agitator), the first volume of the "Geoarchivi" editorial series, directed by Marco Scotini, NABA Visual Arts Department Head and published by Meltemi Editore. The Geoarchives series proposes a series of titles aimed at proposing a decentralisation of artistic studies from aesthetics, in favor of their multiple implications with gender, politics, cultures and techniques. Reopening the rebellious archives of the past at different geopolitical latitudes is an attempt to contribute to the decolonisation of the globalised present. “Asja Lācis. L’agitatrice rossa” moves on the side of the archives of the Modern, not trying so much and only to fill a historical gap in the official narratives but re-proposing the relevance of an archaeological journey that has been lost over time. After the introduction by Marco Scotini, the curator of the volume Andris Brinkmanis, Course Leader of the BA in Painting and Visual Arts of the Academy, will propose a reinterpretation of Asja Lacis today, in its many reports, together with Massimiliano Guareschi, author and NABA lecturer, and Eugenia Casini Ropa, historian of theater and dance, translator and author of an essay in the first volume dedicated to Asja Lācis, “Professione Rivoluzionaria”.
On November 19th at 6 pm "Conversation pieces with Eleonora Fiorani" will be a moment to remember Eleonora Fiorani, essayist, critic and NABA lecturer with a panel that will take place in room G.04 as well, and which will be broadcast live on NABA YouTube. Her work within the Academy will be remembered thanks to the recordings of some of the lessons of Semiotics of Art held by Fiorani with the academic support of Simone Domenico Liscio, NABA Fashion Design Academic Assistant, in the context of the courses of Fashion Design Area and with the interventions of colleagues such as Nicoletta Morozzi, NABA Fashion Design Advisor, the philosopher and NABA lecturer Leonardo Caffo, and Simone Domenico Liscio himself. The research and non-fiction activity that Eleonora Fiorani has conducted over the years will be briefly reviewed with the interventions of Mario Verduci, Fabrizio Schiaffonati, Giovanni Maria Conti representing Lupetti Editore with whom Fiorani has collaborated several times, deepening the volume "La matta di casa. Iconografie dell'immaginario" published in 2020. The curatorial activity carried out by Eleonora will also be presented, especially in reference to the work for Triennale Milano, where she was a member of the scientific committee dealing with the fashion sector proposing between 2015 and 2018 exhibitions such as Rick Owens. Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman, through the words of Marco Sammicheli, Curator for Design, fashion, craftsmanship at Triennale Milano.
On November 20th at 11.30 am on NABA YouTube channel it will be possible to follow the panel “Femminismi e Artecrazia. Il genere nella cattura neoliberale” (Feminisms and Artecracy. The genre in neoliberal capture), a moment of debate and reflection open to the public on research topics that have been addressed by the Visual Arts Department for many years, starting from the two volumes published by Derive Approdi with interventions by Marco Scotini, NABA Visual Arts Department Head, Manuela Gandini, journalist and NABA lecturer, Christian Marazzi, economist and NABA lecturer, Elvira Vannini, NABA lecturer, historian and art critic. The new edition of “Artecrazia. Macchine espositive e governo dei pubblici” (Artecrazia. Exhibition machines and government of the public) by Marco Scotini, is a collection of essays that testify how the expansion of contemporary art has not only accompanied but also promoted and culturally legitimised globalisation. The exponential multiplication of exhibitions and biennials that exploit themes such as ecology, gender, and now the racial issues, as a showcase of liberal emancipation, must be read in terms of a process of pacification and self-absolution that tends only to reaffirm art as an autocratic system of capital. The gender issue is intertwined with the history of art and feminism that will be told by Manuela Gandini retracing the ferments of feminist art in Italy through the political-poetic adventure of two artists who discover their own identity and minority status and, in 1974, Milli Gandini and Mariuccia Secol, the protagonists of the volume “La mamma è uscita. Una storia di arte e femminismo” (Mum’s out. A history of art and feminism).
