The images, sounds and stories of short films made in NABA come to a movie theatre: the NABA Cinema Awards are born to celebrate the works of BA students in Media Design and Multimedia Arts. The first edition award ceremony will be held on March 22 at 7:30 PM, open to the public. The free event will occur in the Sala Excelsior of the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema (Piazza Venticinque Aprile, 8, Milan). Furthermore, there will be a live streaming with Greenwich movie theatre in Rome. After the ceremony it will be possible to watch all the winning projects. Booking for the short film festival by clicking here is required.

NABA and emerging filmmakers

NABA Cinema Awards is an event inspired by Vincenzo Cuccia, Media Design and New Technologies Area Leader. The initiative aims at giving visibility to BA students in Media Design and Multimedia Arts. At the same time, it provides the opportunity to discover and promote the next generation of filmmakers. Two short films directed by the alumni of the same BA Programme will be projected before the award ceremony. These are "Inchei" by Federico Demattè and "Where the leaves fall" by Xin Alessandro Zheng. Both of them have been selected within Short Italian Cinema section of Venice International Film Critics’ Week.

The jury and the categories of NABA Cinema Awards

The jury for the categories Best Direction, Jury Special Prize, Best Short Film is composed by its honorary president Luca Mosso (director of Filmmaker Festival), Alessandro Beretta (artistic director of Milano Film Festival), Anna Franceschini (artist and filmmaker) and Tania Feghali (director and independent filmmaker). A commission composed by the Course Leader and lecturers Alessandro Bertante, Amos Bianchi, Enrico Brocchetta, Stefania Carbonara, Eros Gioetto, Jacopo Martinoni, Igor Muroni, Maresa Lippolis, Marianna Schivardi selected projects for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound categories. Two special mentions will be revealed as well: Best Extra Short Animation selected by Giorgio Scorza (founder and Art Director Movimenti Production); and Best Short Movie - Rome, set by Fabia Fleri (Story Editor & Coordinator Lynn).

NABA Cinema Awards: prizes

The winning projects in each category will be awarded a prize created for this first edition of the NABA Cinema Awards. The winner of the Best Short Film prize will also be awarded the festival distribution service by Premiere Film. Special thanks to all of the initiative’s partners (La Feltrinelli-Maremosso, Moovie, Toon Boom Animation and Wacom), granting special prizes to the winners of the main categories.
