NABA takes part in the Summer School as part of the 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, scheduled from July 21 to 27, 2025. The Visual Arts Area will collaborate with other prestigious academic institutions—including Goethe University Frankfurt, Institute of Art History; Hochschule fürBildende Künste–Städelschule; and the Technical University Berlin, Institute of Art Studies and Historical Urban Studies.
The Summer School as part of the Berlin Biennale and the scholarship
The Summer School attended by NABA offers an interdisciplinary opportunity involving students from all three institutions, with tutors including Merten Lagatz (Technical University of Berlin – Institute of Art Studies and Historical Urban Studies), Marco Scotini (NABA Visual Arts Department Head), and Andris Brinkmanis (NABA BA in Painting and Visual Arts Course Leader). Three of the eight NABA students taking part in the Summer School—Rebecca Momoli, Elisa Caggiula, and Camilla Ferrone—secured their places by winning the contest held on NABA’s Instagram account during the Visual Arts Area exhibition “Notes on Becoming – Cartographies, Migrations and the Archive”.
Within the framework of this initiative, NABA is also launching a dedicated scholarship for emerging talents in the Visual Arts, open to all international students, with the aim of supporting motivated and talented young people in their academic journey. The scholarship provides partial coverage of tuition fees for a Master of Arts or an Academic Master’s in the Visual Arts Area at the Academy, starting in October 2025, February 2026, or October 2026. The final deadline for applications is set for August 30, 2025.
NABA at the 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art: workshops and talks for Summer School students
The 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, “Passing the Fugitive On”, curated by Zasha Colah (NABA MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies lecturer) with assistant curator Valentina Viviani (Academy Alumna), will run until September 14, 2025. One of its aims is to create an international platform for artists who, through their creative commitment, address complex global challenges with solidarity, resilience, and transformative dialogue.
Students participating in the Summer School will also take part in workshops and talks with artists and curators for a truly international experience. The curator Zasha Colah, together with Alex Wieder (Director of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art), will welcome the students on the first day of the summer course.
