NABA Cinema Awards 2025
the award dedicated to short films created by students of the Academy

A truly intense fourth edition: in 2025, the NABA Cinema Awards returned to shine a spotlight on the short films created by students of the Academy's Media Design and New Technologies and Set Design Areas. On 26 and 27 March, the two Award Ceremonies held in Milan and Rome celebrated the projects selected by NABA Faculty, by an external jury of professionals and by the event partners, confirming the value of the initiative as a space for dialogue between education and the audiovisual industry.

An event that publicly presented an entire year of work, research and experimentation, offering students the opportunity to see their creative journey recognised before an audience composed of fellow students, lecturers and industry experts.

The ceremonies in Milan and Rome

In Milan, the NABA Cinema Awards 2025 took place at Anteo Palazzo del Cinema, where on 26 and 27 March the competing short films were premiered. On 27 March, ahead of the Award Ceremony, Igor Muroni (NABA lecturer) hosted a live broadcast on the Academy's YouTube channel, featuring jury members, finalist students and Course Leaders from the Media Design and New Technologies Area.

The Milan Award Ceremony began in the Sala Excelsior and was presented by Vincenzo Cuccia (Area Leader, Media Design and New Technologies and Set Design) together with alumna and content creator Charlie Moon. The event was streamed live on the Academy's YouTube channel and followed by a further live broadcast from Spazio con Anteo, again hosted by Igor Muroni, with additional moments of dialogue involving students, jury members and Course Leaders. The ceremony concluded with the screening of the finalist short films.

In Rome, the NABA Cinema Awards 2025 took place at Cinema Intrastevere. Following the screenings of the competing short films on 26 March, the Award Ceremony was held on 27 March, presented by Fabio Capalbo (BA in Film and Animation Course Leader) and Francesca Staasch (Academic Master in Screenwriting for Series Course Leader). As in Milan, the ceremony was streamed live on the Academy's YouTube channel and concluded with the screening of the finalist short films.

Awards, Juries and Partners

The 2025 edition of the NABA Cinema Awards introduced two significant new features. Separate juries and award categories were established for the Milan and Rome events, thus recognising the specific characteristics of the two contexts. In addition, in both cities, the Best Trailer award was presented, voted by the NABA Instagram community.

An internal jury composed of lecturers, Course Leaders, and Advisors of the Academy awarded prizes for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound in both Milan and Rome. In Milan, the additional awards Best VFX, Best Set Design and Best Game Trailer and Cinematics were also presented.

An external jury, composed of industry professionals and experts, awarded prizes for Best Short Film, Best Direction and the Jury Special Prize in both cities. In Milan only, the award for Best Short Animation was also presented.

Among the special awards presented in both cities were the Prem1ere Film Award, curated by Prem1ere Film, and the WIFTMI Chantal Award, curated by Women in Film, Television & Media Italia. In Rome, the Cinematografo Special Prize was also awarded.
