NABA announces DE RERUM NATURA. NABA Fashion Show 2025 – Rome, the event that on July 2, 2025, from 7 PM, will bring to the runway the collections by students of the BA in Fashion Design from the Rome campus. The event, by invitation only, will be held at Spazio FIELD (Palazzo Brancaccio, Via Merulana 248, Rome), and can also be followed via the live stream on July 2 on the Academy’s YouTube channel.
NABA Fashion Show 2025: the concept and the event
During this edition of the Fashion Show, 12 students from the Rome campus will present their collections, selected by a jury composed of NABA Alumni, journalists, industry professionals and companies. Each project is developed around this year’s theme, “DE RERUM NATURA”, defined by Nicoletta Morozzi (NABA Fashion Design Advisor) and inspired by the didactic poem by Roman poet and philosopher Titus Lucretius Carus. Conceived to leave students’ creativity completely free, the theme is not a claim to classical heritage, nor a return to Latin roots. On the contrary, it invites reflection on the relationship between past, present and future, and on the big questions humanity has been asking for millennia—questions that today resonate deeply with our experience, including in the dialogue with artificial intelligence. The issues Lucretius addressed in De Rerum Natura remain strikingly relevant: the search for peace, doubt over established order and humankind’s dependency on the divine, responsibility for what happens on Earth, the need to build a harmonious relationship with nature, the importance of love, and the awareness that nothing is ever perfectly balanced—because everything is in constant motion. Hence the desire to keep renewing the world, despite the fear of death; the idea of thought as the origin of bodily action; and the belief in the existence of a soul.
It is precisely this attitude of asking questions—rather than seeking definitive answers—that creates a direct thread between the thought of two thousand years ago and that of today. The same thread now links Lucretius to the themes surrounding artificial intelligence. Even in the face of the most advanced technologies, our identity stays alive through our ability to ask intelligent questions—choosing each day whether to rely on the external memory of machines or to continue trusting in the most traditional forms of manual craftsmanship.
Lucretius chose poetry to speak about philosophy, science, and the world around him—a line of thought that has travelled intact across two millennia of transformation.
Today, our students will speak through fashion, which—when it becomes an expression of personal feelings and visions—holds the same narrative power as poetry and is fuelled by technique: draping, cutting, sewing, communicating, organising. All essential gestures that give meaning and soul to what we create, allowing us to care for it and, through that care, to contribute in our own way to the growth of the world.
