Awareness about materials is the basis of young designers' skills. The Fashion Design Area improve its didactic offer thanks to collaborations with textile companies. The relationship between fashion and environmental sustainability has been at the core of two special projects: the one born from Fulgar's and Shima Seiki Italia's contribution; and the "Manteco Sustainability Award".

The collaboration with Fulgar and Shima Seiki Italia

One of the Fashion System's priorities is to train designers who can interpret environmental sensitivity. NABA has been walking on this path for some time. The collaboration with Fulgar and Shima Seiki Italia proves how the Fashion Design Area values the ability to develop original creations with a green soul. Thanks to this opportunity, the first-year student of the MA in Textile Design - Liu Yijie - used the innovative Q-CYCLE yarn by Fulgar. She expressed her own "ethical" creativity through a sustainable capsule collection inspired by the lunar landscape. Outfits come from a unique weaving process given by Shima Seiki Italia's technological expertise. Luca Belotti (MAs in Fashion Design and in Textile Design Course Leader) and Simone Domenico Liscio (NABA Fashion Design Area Academic Assistant) coordinated the project, and NABA lecturer Saverio Palatella supervised it.

The Manteco's contest and the students' sustainable outfits

The "Manteco Sustainability Award" also lies in a "green" fashion concept. It called second-year students of the BA in Fashion Design to design a capsule collection using the company's fabrics. Manteco selected the five most interesting proposals. The evaluation took into account the design, the look and, above all, the environmental impact of the materials. The contest winners are the Rome campus student Beatrice Nappi and the Milan campus students Emanuele Bosica, Juri Prifti, Sofia Bianchini and Xinyu Zhong. Their creations took shape thanks to the fabrics sponsored by the company. Michele Corradini (BA in Fashion Design Course Leader) and Simone Domenico Liscio coordinated the project. The "Manteco Sustainability Award" involved NABA lecturers Gentucca Bini, Emanuele Longo and Fabio Quaranta.
