The Programme: overview

The Academic Master provides the students with a cross-disciplinary methodological approach and the needed tools to fulfil the most urgent issues related to landscape, environmental protection, biodiversity and sustainability, by connecting artistic creativity, design practice and scientific knowledge. Through theoretical seminars, experimental workshops and field research, the students explore the dynamics and stratifications that define an ecosystem (natural and social).

Learning Objectives:

Over the AM, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Deal with dynamics and stratifications that define an ecosystem (natural and social)
  • Manage monitoring, intervention and artistic landscape design processes
  • Develop sustainable practices and economies, public art projects as well as agroecology and cultural models related to landscape transformations
STUDY PLAN
<p>The Academic Master's is an intensive programme allowing students to approach a wide range of disciplines. All of them look at the ecosystem both as a natural and social entity. The studies plan subjects are Visual culture, Public art and participatory design, Landscape design, Landscape aesthetics, Phenomenology of ecosystems, Expression issues of complex societies.&nbsp;</p> <p>Students will have the opportunity to analyse and criticise the western conceptions of nature and those spread in the rest of the world. They will take into account the relationship between public space and artistic practices and will learn to represent and intervene in the landscape. Climate change, biodiversity, and some of the most critical topics globally are at the programme's core. From public and participatory art involving the people's plural knowledge to design practices, the environment and society are the focus of the didactic project. The programme concludes with an internship and the presentation of an artistic, critical or curatorial Final project.</p>

<p>Sound Engineer and Sound Designer, he earned his BA in Recording Arts and his MA in Creative Media Practice at Middlesex University (London), and, later on, he also graduated in Computer Science at Politecnico di Milano. His research interests include generative compositional techniques, contemporary music, artificial intelligence, interaction design, sound and audio technology, which he investigates through his ongoing PhD Studies, based at the Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP) centre of London College of Communication at University of the Arts London. From 2003 to 2015, he worked in a variety of academic positions in the field of Sound at SAE Institute, that he has also directed. At NABA he has been the Design and Applied Arts Department Head&nbsp; (2015-2019) also teaching Sound Design. NABA Dean since 2019, he guides educational activities of the Academy.</p> <p></p> <div class="s7"><span class="s6">Since</span><span class="s6"> 2025</span><span class="s6">, he </span><span class="s6">has been</span><span class="s6"> Visual Arts</span><span class="s6">Department Head</span><span class="s6"> ad interim.</span></div>

<p><span class="s9">Marco Scotini is the Artistic Director of the FM Centre for Contemporary Art, Milan, and Head of the Exhibitions </span><span class="s9">Programme</span><span class="s9"> at PAV, Parco Arte </span><span class="s9">Vivente</span><span class="s9">, Turin. He is the Scientific Director of the </span><span class="s9">Archivio</span><span class="s9"> Gianni Colombo and the Bert Theis Archive. He has been a member of the Italian Council since 2019. He has been </span><span class="s10">NABA</span> <span class="s9">Visual Arts Department Head </span><span class="s9">from</span><span class="s9"> 2004</span> <span class="s10">to 2025</span><span class="s10">. Since 2025 he</span> <span class="s10">has held the position of</span><span class="s10"> NABA Artistic Director</span><span class="s10">.</span><span class="s9"> After many collaborations with international artistic institutions (Van </span><span class="s9">Abbemuseum</span><span class="s9">, Eindhoven, </span><span class="s9">Documenta, Kassel, MAXXI, Rome, SALT, Istanbul, Castello di Rivoli), he curated the Albanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2015), co-curated the 1st </span><span class="s9">Anren</span><span class="s9"> Biennale (2017) and he has been the Artistic Director of the 2nd Yinchuan Biennale in China (2018). Among his most recent publications: Utopian Display. Geopolitical Curating (Quodlibet NABA Insights, 2019), Politiques de la </span><span class="s9">V&eacute;g&eacute;tation</span><span class="s9">(</span><span class="s9">Eterotopia</span><span class="s9"> France, 2019), </span><span class="s9">Artecrazia</span><span class="s9"> (</span><span class="s9">DeriveApprodi</span><span class="s9">, 2017).</span></p>
