A programme to explore ways of collecting and recognising heritage value in migrating experiences between historical and aesthetic practices: NABA is one of the organizers of the last day of the Summer School “Documenting Shadow Knowledge”. The event will be held at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome on July 28. Two initiatives will involve the Academy: the programme of performances by Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies students and the talk in English.

The last day of the Summer School at the Istituto Svizzero

By comparing different methodologies of enquiry, preservation and valorisation, the Summer School focuses on the stories of migration recorded by administrative traces of passage and interrogates the forms of recording 'from below' implemented in recent research. The Summer School was born from the partnership between NABA, EDHEA - Ecole de design et haute école d'art du Valais, and HEAD - Haute Ecole d'art et de design de Genève. It is promoted by the Istituto Svizzero in Rome. Silvia Simoncelli (NABA Head of Education - Rome) and Lorenzo Romito (NABA lecturer, co-founder - Stalker) contribute to the programme.

Silvia Simoncelli herself will moderate the talk "Curating Shadow Knowledge". Here, Emily Jacir (Director - Dar Yusuf Nasri Jacir for Art and Research, NABA lecturer), Gioia Dal Molin (curator and writer and head of the art programme - Istituto Svizzero a Roma) and Sara Alberani (Cofounder - LOCALES) will take the floor. During the last day, three performances by NABA students will also be presented: "In acqua e terra la mano" ("In water and land is the hand") by Chiara Antonelli, "Rompere il vetro in caso di emergenza" ("Break the glass in case of emergency") by Barbara De Veteris, "E ricomincia il canto" ("And the chant starts again") by Nicolò Minisi. These interventions investigate the themes of the archive and memory by observing them from different angles and contexts. For the realisation of the performances, we want to thank the Rome campus students: Zoe Alisia Balla, Cecilia Carmine, Mariachiara Civitella, Miranda Lopez Ortega. A special thanks also goes to the Teatro Azione school for having involved their students.
