"Reinventing Ostiense": concept and credits

Videocittà is an open and innovative audiovisual observatory where moving images are at the core. The event includes Agorà - a programme aiming to connect professionals and companies of the national and international creative industry and to meet the best professionals in the audiovisual, digital and artistic fields. Here, "Reinventing Ostiense" will be presented. It includes the three projects born within the BA in Graphic Design and Art Direction of the Rome campus: "FLUVIA. Via del Polo Nord", "Most. Melting Ostiense", and "nao. Nuova Area Ostiense" ("noa. New Ostiense Area"). Through them, students suggest a new vision of the district, emphasising its distinctive values: creativity, dynamism, inclusion and innovation.

"FLUVIA. Via del Polo Nord" by Sara Belziti, Chiara Farina, Martina Montani, Roberta Troiani.

A visual design project focusing on Via del Porto Fluviale - called "Via del Polo Nord" for the strong wind that characterises it - the fulcrum of a redevelopment project in the Ostiense area.

"Most. Melting Ostiense" by Agata Arzillo, Claudia Faraone, Pietro Rosignoli, Maria Vittoria Rossi.

Inspired by the melting pot of souls that characterises the district, "Most" translates the area's ability to be something "more": modernity, historicity, industrial archaeology and innovation.

"nao. Nuova Area Ostiense" by Elena Carboni, Lorenzo Saba, Matteo Valeri, Giorgio Vitto.

As the assonance with the English word "now" suggests, the project dedicated to the Ostiense area sounds like a novelty, bringing back the urgency of being a well-defined district "now".

"Reinventing Ostiense" was a choral work that saw the participation of students from the addresses of: Brand Design under the guidance of Professors Alessio Natale Ferri, Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi and Gianluca Abbate; Creative Direction under the guidance of Professors Miriam Bianchi and Dario Niglio; and Visual Design under the guidance of Professors Manuel Focareta and Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi.

The Art Direction of "Reinventing Ostiense" is by Alessio Natale Ferri (NABA lecturer, Founder - Studio Natale) and BA's lecturers Gianluca Abbate and Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi.

The project was supported by Silvia Simoncelli (NABA Head of Education - Rome) and Assunta Squitieri (BA in Graphic Design and Art Direction Advisor Leader at the Rome campus).

Special thanks to Amedeo Ciaccheri (President - Municipio VIII) and Maya Vetri (Assessora alle Politiche Culturali) and the community of the Ostiense area.

Saturday July 15 at 10:00 PM will be held the talk “Citybranding, come narrare una trasformazione urbana”

("Citybranding, how to narrate an urban transformation") with Amedeo Ciaccheri (President of Municipio VIII), Giuliana Maria Rita Carbone (Head of Operations – ROAD) and Silvia Simoncelli (NABA Head of Education – Rome).

The event, led by Nicolas Ballario (journalist, writer and curator) will be an opportunity to explore the creative process and the relation between the Academy and the Municipio VIII that led to the creation of the Brand Identity proposals developed by the students of the BA in Graphic Design and Art Direction of the Rome Campus.
