Six exciting movies from national and international festivals; a selection of original works by emerging authors: Extra Explore is a film festival celebrating contemporary productions. From June 16 to July 28, at 9:00 PM, the Piazza del MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo (Via Guido Reni, 4a, Rome) will become an open-air cinema. Before the six main showings, short films by students and alumnae of the Media Design and New Technologies Area will be on the big screen. Furthermore, two Academy lecturers directed two of the movies featured in the festival.

Short films and movies at MAXXI: NABA's mark on the festival

Extra Explore is a chance to discover the work of the Academy's students and alumnae. Short films introducing the main showings are: "Pillow", a thesis project by NABA alumna Isabel Mazzolini (June 16); "La torre d'avorio", a thesis project by NABA alumna Silvia Lamacchia (June 30); "Palummella", a thesis project by NABA alumna Chiara Musso (July 7); "Teletocco", by NABA student Aurora Fumero (July 14); "Col tempo", a thesis project by NABA alumna Sara Dresti (July 21); "Pietra", by NABA student Giulia Minella (July 28).

The programme of feature films also includes "Il buco" (June 30) and "Atlantide" (July 28), by NABA lecturers Michelangelo Frammartino and Yuri Ancarani, respectively. Their contribution and that of students and alumnae prove the NABA's attention to film production. Such an interest also supports the Master in Screenwriting for Series, planned to start at the Rome campus* in October 2022.

Extra Explore takes place thanks to the collaboration between NABA, Fondazione Cinema per Roma, MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo and the Departments of History Anthropology Religions Art History, Media and Performing Arts of Sapienza Università di Roma. Extra Explore is part of Cinema al MAXXI ninth edition, a broader festival curated by Mario Sesti.
