From the masterclass on serial and film pitch to public pitching session

Z-PITCH calls Gen Z to propose audiovisual storytelling projects (in a feature film or serial project format), original and unproduced, in Italian and English. Lecturers, professionals and students from involved schools chose the six finalist projects. The jury selected pitches in accordance with the ability to identify relevant contemporary issues. Finalists are: "Le figlie della notte" by Andrea Vitelli and Giulia Minella (NABA Rome campus); "Nei miei panni" by Pierfrancesco Izzo (NABA Milan campus); "Drag Priest" by Innocenzo Mulieri, Barbara Amoruso and Brigitta Fiertler (Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli); "Komorebi" by Marco Serra and Gisella Grandis (Sapienza Università di Roma); "Marmellata di insetti" by Ruben Gagliardini (Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti); "La festa è finita" by Lorenzo Vitrone (Scuola d'Arte Cinematografica Gian Maria Volonté).

Selected students attended a masterclass to prepare for the pitching session. Here, Stefano Tealdi (director and producer), Fabio Natale (screenwriter), Erica Negri (Sky Executive Producer) and Giusi Buondonno (director and screenwriter) gave their insights on the submitted works. While Maria Grazia Li Bergoli – representing WIFTMI - Women in Film, Television & Media Italia – provided feedback by focusing on diversity.

The jury of the May 11 public pitching session is made up of: Mirella Cheeseman (Head of International Development - Wildside), Salvatore Pecoraro (producer - Minimum Fax Media) and Valentina Segre (agent and founder - Studio Segre). The Best Pitch and Best Project creative teams will benefit from advanced tutoring to prepare their projects for Italian and international market platforms. Also, they will receive a complimentary entry for the next edition of the Rome Film Festival.

Z-PITCH and the focus on audiovisual storytelling at NABA

Z-PITCH is a contest developed within Rome City of Film UNESCO. In order to expand the reference network and further implement tools and training channels, NABA and Fondazione Cinema per Roma extended the second edition to some relevant educational institutions. They are the Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli and the Scuola d'Arte Cinematografica Gian Maria Volonté. The aim remains to enhance the training experiences and creativity of the new generations in the audiovisual field and foster encounters between professionals and young talents.

Z-PITCH proves how NABA cares about the film media. The contest is part of a path where creative writing for film and series is among the Academy's priorities. Here is also the motivation of the Academic Master in Screenwriting for Series at the Rome campus. The intensive programme integrates theories, methods and design practices by developing cross-disciplinary design practices for audiovisual screenwriting as well as for the development of film or serial projects.
