NABA Fashion Show 2025: the concept and the event

During this year’s Fashion Show, 30 students from the Milan campus will present 120 creations selected by a jury composed of NABA Alumni, journalists, professionals, and companies from the sector. Each collection is inspired by this year’s theme, “DE RERUM NATURA”, defined by Nicoletta Morozzi (NABA Fashion Design Advisor) and inspired by the didactic poem of the Roman poet and philosopher Titus Lucretius Carus. Conceived to avoid imposing any limits on students’ creativity, the theme is neither a celebration of classicism nor a return to Latin roots; instead, it invites reflection on the relationship between past, present, and future, and on the fundamental questions humanity has asked for millennia—questions which today intersect deeply with our lives, even in dialogue with artificial intelligence. The topics explored by Lucretius in his De Rerum Natura remain strikingly relevant: the pursuit of peace, doubt about established order and humanity’s dependence on the divine, our responsibility for what happens on Earth, the need to build a harmonious relationship with nature, the importance of love, and the awareness that nothing is ever perfectly balanced, as everything is in constant flux. From this arises the desire to continually renew the world, despite the fear of death, thought as the origin of bodily action, and the existence of the soul.

It is precisely this attitude of asking questions—rather than seeking definitive answers—that creates a direct thread between thought two thousand years ago and the way we think today, the same thread that now links Lucretius to the topics surrounding artificial intelligence. Even when faced with the most sophisticated technologies, our identity remains alive in our ability to ask intelligent questions, choosing each day whether to rely on the external memory of machines or to continue valuing the most traditional forms of handcraft.

Lucretius chose poetry to talk about philosophy, science, and the world around him, and his ideas have remained intact across two thousand years of transformation. Our students, on the other hand, will express themselves through fashion which, when it becomes the expression of personal feelings and vision, has a narrative force equal to that of poetry and is nourished by technique: shaping, cutting, sewing, communicating, organising—all fundamental actions that give meaning and soul to what we create, and allow us to care for it, contributing in a personal way to the world’s growth.

NABA Fashion Show 2025: the magazine “Darwin20”

As in previous years, a new edition of the Academy’s magazine is planned again, created within the BA in Fashion Styling and Communication. Now in its twelfth edition and presented during the Fashion Show, “Darwin20” tells the story of all the creations by students from the Milan and Rome campuses, developed around the previously explored concept. The magazine gathers content relating to the communication of the collections and special projects carried out during the Academic Year.

Five outstanding mentors supported the students involved in producing the magazine: Gloria Maria Cappelletti (NABA Lecturer, Editor in Chief, and Creative Director of RED-EYE magazine), Candela Pelizza (Art Director, Content Creator, and Web Influencer), Giorgio Ciccone (Creative and Art Director), Daria Persia, and Efisio Marras.

NABA Fashion Show 2025: the role of the Faculty

The final presentation, inspired by the concept “DE RERUM NATURA”, is promoted by Colomba Leddi(Fashion Design Area Leader) and Michele Corradini (BA in Fashion Design Course Leader – Milan), with direction and artistic supervision by Paolo Bazzani (Art Director and NABA lecturer). The show’s set-up will unfold throughout the spaces of the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi, which will also curate the sound accompanying the presentation of the collections.
