NABA Design Area took part to “Re-sewing the future”, the workshop curated by Makers Unite and BASE, that was part of PLAYGROUND, BASE Milano’s Public Programme, started on December 14th, proposing both a physical and digital schedule, composed of lectures, insights and residencies revolving around contaminations between different sectors and collective processes.

The workshop, that took place from 14th to 17th of December at BASE Milano, involved Design Area students Sofia Biondi, Lucrezia Dall’Aglio, Carrie Hack, Giulia Madini, Andrea Mazzini, Andreea Maria Popescu, Rosalinda Vecchi and Sarah Vigani in a creative process that invited them to re-think the mask, from the symbol of social distancing to a facilitator of the intercultural dialogue.

The residency was the first step in Italy for Makers Unite, the Dutch creative agency for social inclusion, with the participation of Spazio 3R, the sustainable tailoring atelier that creates opportunities for women in situations of fragility.

Area Design students collaborated with Spazio 3R girls with the aim of finding a positive twist on the dramatic current medical emergency, based on the mask, an object that is now a relevant part of everybody’s life. They were challenged to re-think its concept, through the dialogue between different cultures, to express the positive vision of a post-Covid future as a symbol of a new beginning, starting from the Base.

The residency had been realised with the support of Netherlands’ Embassy and  Milan’s General Consulate.
