For The Future Designers is an initiative promoted by NABA and Valpietra, a brand of artificial stone products dedicated to the world of interior design. The challenge for the students is to envision innovative project with remarkable features in terms of sustainability. The company awarded a first prize and two honorable mentions, considering creativity and feasibility as main evaluation criteria.
Project developed for production and market launch, expected in spring 2016.
Seam is a line of 12 radiating heating panels made of reconstructed stone. Their perfectly smooth surface appears broken and wounded with irregular patterns. The aim of the project is to give value to the material. Like the ancient japanese art of Kintsugi, which consists in repairing objects with gold. To repair does not mean to lose value, but on the contrary, to give to birth something new, a new story. Formal inspiration is taken from Mother Earth herself and from the fragments and scars that we can observe on her surface.
