On Friday, February 16 at 5 PM, the Archivio Flamigni (in Piazza Bartolomeo Romano 6, Rome) will host the NABA presentation of "Garbata. Topo/tipo/grafia di Garbatella" under the patronage of Rome, Municipality VIII. The project presented to the public consists of a typographic map of the Garbatella area and was conceived by students of the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Art Direction at the Rome NABA campus, as part of the Typography course, under the artistic direction of the NABA lecturer Silvana Amato.

From a survey on the typographic characters that distinguish Garbatella, NABA students have indeed created the Garbata font, an alphabet based on an epigraphic character present in the neighbourhood, and the Garbata Ornaments font, a system of bi-dimensional graphic modules that, when assembled together, allow for the representation of the many architectures in the district.

"Garbata. Topo/tipo/grafia di Garbatella": the presentation event

The presentation of "Garbata. Topo/tipo/grafia di Garbatella" will take place within the 25th edition of "Buon compleanno Garbatella", an initiative promoted by Rome Municipality VIII and scheduled for February 16, 17, and 18, 2024, with events and exhibitions in the Garbatella area. Representatives from Rome, Municipality VIII, Silvia Simoncelli (NABA Head of Education - Rome), Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi (BA in Graphic Design and Art Direction Course Advisor Leader - Rome), Silvana Amato (NABA lecturer) and some of the students who participated in the project will attend the presentation. On the following days, February 17 and 18, in addition to the Archivio Flamigni, copies of "Garbata. Topo/tipo/grafia di Garbatella" will be available at CosArte Spazio Creativo (in Via Nicolò Odero 13, Rome) and ARea M (in Via Candeo 18, Rome) until stocks last.
