NABA and the film industry are forging an ever closer bond. The former Academy student Davide Palella will participate in the Pardi di domani section of Locarno Film Festival. His short film "Sonnenstube" is part of the omnibus movie "Let's make something!" - a project born under the NABA lecturer Michelangelo Frammartino's supervision. The work will be presented at the PalaVideo, Palazzo dei Congressi Muralto on August 4, at 5:00 PM. It will also be screened again on August 12, at 6:30 PM, at PalaCinema 3 and PalaCinema 2, PalaCinema Locarno.

The short film in Locarno and the workshop for filmmakers

Davide Palella attended the BA in Media Design and Multimedia Arts, which will evolve into the BA in Film and Animation at both the Milan and Rome campus* from October 2022. To his credit, a series of short films have been selected for national and international festivals. These include "Sonnenstube" - a fresco of Sergio Cortesi's life and scientific research. The Swiss astronomer has been the director of the Specola Solare in Locarno, devoting himself to observing the Sun for decades. From 1957 to 2021, he has drawn more than 15,000 sunspots, moved by the faith of a monk to whom his god never answered.

"Sonnenstube" was produced with the support of the Ticino Film Commission and the Majid Foundation. The short film was shot as part of the "Let's make something!" workshop supported by CISA - Conservatorio Internazionale di Scienze Audiovisive. Here, director Michelangelo Frammartino guided twelve young international filmmakers along an intensive research path on the deep meaning of the image. The aim was to grasp the Ticino landscape with an innovative gaze.

NABA lecturer and alumnus’ short film in the Orizzonti section in Venice

In addition to the screening at the Locarno Festival, NABA is pleased to announce the selection of the short film by Federico Di Corato (NABA lecturer and former student of the BA in Media Design and Multimedia Arts) at the 79th Venice International Film Festival. "Manuale di cinematografia per dilettanti - Vol. I" will be part of the Orizzonti section's programme.

ENECEfilm and Lab80 produced the short film. It was born during the second edition of Re-framing home movies thanks to footage coming from the Augusto Gandini Fund (1927-1942) and collected by the Cinescatti Archive of Lab 80 films. The "Conseil à l'écriture pour les projets documentaires" of the French association Vidéadoc supported the project. The artist Sara Galli took care of the animation. At the same time, Enrico Gabrielli composed the soundtrack for the recording series 19'40''.
