The Programme: overview

The BA provides students with the tools to interpret and participate in the complex reality of contemporary media. It focuses on the key aspects/main issues of the audiovisual production, in the increasingly hybrid environment of cinema, video games and animation, exploring language, history, writing, techniques of shooting, editing, and postproduction, 2D and 3D animations, direction of photography, sound design, game design and interactive multimedia installations.

Over the BA, students will have the opportunity to gain skills in:

  • Design of audiovisual productions for cinema and web
  • Digital animation and video game design
  • Design and development of interactive and transmedia projects
STUDY PLAN
<p>The programme enables students to acquire basic knowledge and skills in the field and to undertake a specialising path in the subject of interest through a project-based and experiential didactic approach.</p> <p>After the first year, students choose their specialisation, with specific and elective courses during the second and the third year and a last specialised semester.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>FIRST YEAR</strong></p> <p>Introduces students to the basic tools to approach the audio-visual, animation and game design.</p> <p>Students learn the skills necessary to undertake film projects, documentaries, tv and web series, video contents for web and communication, story-telling through moving images and contemporary videogame projects, through theoretical, project-based and lab teachings of history of cinema and video, multimedia dramaturgy, screenwriting foundations, linear audiovisuals, sound design foundations, multimedia languages, digital cultures, digital applications for art.</p> <p><strong>SECOND YEAR</strong></p> <p>Guides students towards further improvement in the field by choosing one of the programme specialisations (Filmmaking, Animation, Game Design) and through specialising studies in creative writing, direction of photography, digital animation techniques, new media aesthetics, interaction theories and techniques, direction, computer games, multimedia languages, multimedia design, project culture, digital applications for art.</p> <p>Led by teachers through practical experiences, students learn how to develop complete projects in the different fields of application, from the concept to the economic, physical and time boundaries, and the requests of the client.</p> <p><strong>THIRD YEAR</strong></p> <p>Defines students knowledge and skills and provide the opportunity to independently and professionally manage the complete creative process for audio-visual, animation and game design projects, with regard to the contemporary professional context of production and distribution.</p> <p>By the end of the programme, students develop a personal method and language through specialising teachings of direction, direction for video games, multimedia design, history of modern art, theory and methods of mass media, multimedia installations, phenomenology of the image, art semiotics, and didactic activities related to the thesis project, in its theoretical and project-based components.</p>
