Margherita Palli

Course Leader, BA in Theatre Design

A teacher for more than 25 years, Margherita Palli is a professor of theatre design at NABA and a member of the Theatre Design Lab faculty at the IUAV in Venice. She has also served as a professor of theatre design at the Politecnico di Milano (Milano–Bovisa).

Her professional experience includes working at the Centro Artistico Alik Cavaliere, with Pierluigi Nicolin for the XVI Milan Triennale , and with Gae Aulenti for Musée d’Orsay and for the realization of theatre shows.

Since 1984, she has worked as a theatre designer with the director Luca Ronconi, with whom she has produced a long series of shows all over the world. She works also collaborates with other directors, including Mauro Avogadro, Andrea Barzini, Franco Branciaroli, Liliana Cavani, Cesare Lievi, Valter Malosti, and Mario Martone.

Palli has worked for several internationally famous theatres and festivals, such as Teatro alla Scala Milan, Piccolo Teatro Milan, Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe, Comédie Française de Paris, the Salzburg Festival, and the Venice Biennale’s International Theatre Festival.

Throughout her career, Palli has been awarded many prizes for her artistry in theatre design, including the Premio Ubu, Premio Gassman, Premio E.T.I. Gli Olimpici del Teatro, Premio Abbiati, Premio Associazione Nazionale dei Critici di Teatro, and in 2015, the Premio Svizzero per il teatro.
